Bosua joins after most recently playing with South Georgia Tormenta FC during the 2022 and 2023 seasons
RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce the signing of South African forward Arthur Bosua, pending league and federation approval.
Bosua joins the Roos following most recently playing with USL League One rivals, South Georgia Tormenta FC, during the club’s 2022 title-winning season and 2023 season. Previously, he played with NISA club New Amsterdam FC in the 2021 season and USL Championship rivals Charleston Battery from 2019-20.
The Johannesburg native has made a name for himself as a towering 6-foot-4 forward with opportunistic ability in the air and with his feet. Using his size to his advantage, he can connect play in the final third or get in behind defenders to receive service in the box.
One of his signature goals came in the 2020 USL Championship Quarterfinal against Charlotte Independence. In the 11th minute of extra time, with the match tied 1-1, Charleston played a long free kick into the center of the box. Bosua rose above the charging keeper and flicked the ball into the back of the net to score the eventual game-winner.
Before going pro, Bosua played with the Long Island Rough Riders of USL League Two from 2017-2018 and attended Columbia University from 2014-17 where he started 59 of 63 games across four years.
His record as a goalscorer for the Lions steadily increased year-over-year before it crescendoed in his senior season to the tune of 12 goals and five assists for a total of 29 points. Bosua led the No. 25 Lions in 2017 to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1993 where they bested William & Mary College before falling in a nailbiter to No. 1 Wake Forest University.
He was the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year in his junior and senior seasons and he was an All-Ivy League First Team selection in his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. He finished his career with the Lions with 27 goals, 12 assists, and 66 points. He ranks seventh all-time in program history in goals, points, and most goals scored in a single season.

“I’ve known Darren for a few years, and I am happy I finally have the chance to play for him. The style of play he is looking for this year will suit my strengths well, and I can’t wait to contribute to the team however I can. He is an experienced coach who knows how to win, so deciding to join Richmond under his leadership was easy. This season, I aim to be involved in as many goals as possible; for me, that’s the best part of playing. We want to win the League, League Cup, and Open Cup as a team. We must connect with the fans and community while giving them strong performances on the field week in and week out.
“Richmond has always been a tough place to play, and the team is always strong. The club has one of the best, if not the best, fan bases in the league. I can’t wait to meet everyone and represent the club every day on and off the field. I am happy to join a great core of returning guys and contribute to the culture and performances however I can.
“Supporters should know I am excited to meet them and create new experiences this year. Representing the fans, the city, and the club is a privilege. I can’t wait for the home opener on March 23rd so I can experience the support of the best fans in the league. The support from the fans is what representing a team like Richmond is all about!”
Darren Sawatzky, Richmond Kickers’ Head Coach and Chief Sporting Officer said:
“Arthur gives us a target player with a different profile than Emi. This will allow us to play different ways and take pressure off Emi and other attackers depending on how we decide to play each week. Arthur holds the ball well, can score with his feet in the box and from distance, and he gives us an aerial threat in the box that forces defenses to defend honestly in the box. He is an intelligent, character guy with a team-first attitude. We need winners in our team that put the team culture first; Arthur is another attacking threat with drive and bite, and we welcome him to Richmond.”
