News and Notes:
ONE LAST (BUS) RIDE: The Kickers are en route to their last away match of the season. One Knoxville will host the Kickers at Regal Soccer Stadium on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The first time the two teams met this season, One Knox came to City Stadium on June 24 and the game ended in a 2-2 draw. Emiliano Terzaghi scored early, burying one in the seventh minute, and scored again in the 75th to close the scoring on the day.
With Knoxville sitting in eighth place in the standings for the time being, Richmond will look to grab the win and play spoiler to the remaining chances One Knox has to break into the playoffs.
MAN OF THE LAST MATCH: On Saturday, Will Palmquist earned the recognition of Keiter Man of the Match. The goalkeeper has started the last two games for the Kickers. Two weekends ago, he made four saves against Greenville and this weekend, Palmquist made five saves against South Georgia Tormenta. The five included one that required an immediate rebound reaction to complete the save.
This performance earned Palmquist both man of the match and a spot on USL League One’s team of the week. Palmquist was joined on the team of the week by Kickers’ midfielders Nil Vinyals and Zaca Moran.
SIMMONDS FAMILY FUN: The Kickers will play in just one of several soccer games in Knoxville this weekend, but two of the matchups could potentially feature a Simmonds sibling on the roster. Kameron Simmonds — the older sister of Kickers’ forward Nicholas Simmonds and a sophomore forward at Tennessee — and the Lady Vols will face the University of Kentucky in Regal Soccer Stadium on Thursday.
Final Home Match:
The Kickers’ next and final home match is set for Oct. 14th when they host Central Valley Fuego FC, for a 6 p.m. kickoff. The club will celebrate Fan Appreciation Night presented by FeedMore! Get your tickets now before we sell out!
