RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers (7-4-4) play host to USL League One leading Greenville Triumph SC (8-4-4) in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday night at City Stadium.
This weekend’s fixture is the first of three contests between the Triumph and Kickers – first and second in the league respectively. By virtue of a league-best goal difference of plus-13, a win would see the Kickers return to the pole position in League One.
An intense rivalry, still without a draw, the Kickers have owned the series, winning the Bon Secours Cup every season since 2019 when the rivalry began. In 2021, the Triumph spoiled the Kickers’ home opener with a smash-and-grab 1-0 victory at City Stadium, before the Roos earned a decisive 2-0 victory at Greenville. The second goal of the night saw Emiliano Terzaghi set the new USL League One all-time goal-scoring record.

The Kickers have been heating up with the weather as they look to continue a run of form that’s seen them lose just once since the calendar turned to June.
Last time out, the Kickers grinded out a 1-1 draw in Charlotte against the Independence, extending their unbeaten run to three games.
Charlotte struck first from the penalty spot in the 65th minute, but Owayne Gordon headed home a cross from Jonathan Bolanos just three minutes later – his second goal in as many games – to level things at one goal apiece.

Bolanos has now scored or assisted in each of Richmond’s last seven matches, and that assist was his league-best seventh assist and team-leading 10th goal contribution.
Following Friday night’s performance, Bolanos was named to his second consecutive team of the week. The honor comes in the midst of an incredible run of form, having been nominated for USL League One Player and Goal of the Month for June.
The Triumph enters this weekend’s matchup on a five-match unbeaten run, having played to a 5-5 draw Wednesday night against South Georgia. Greenville forward Jacob Labovitz netted a pair of goals in the game, and his seven goals on the season are good for second in the league.

Saturday is also Pride Night at City Stadium, and the players have tie-dyed shirts again this season in advance of the festivities. The shirts will be on sale during the match with the proceeds donated to Virginia Pride.
Following this weekend’s match against Greenville, the Kickers are on the road for three straight games before returning home to face FC Tucson on August 6.
