RICHMOND, VA – (Friday, May 1, 2015) – The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce the return of the world famous Barclays Premier League with the anticipation of an international exhibition featuring West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, July 19. The prestigious match will be part of a 10-day, three-game East Coast tour and will mark the second time a team from England’s top flight will appear in Virginia.
“Due to the overwhelming success of last year’s event when the Kickers hosted Crystal Palace, we knew we had to bring the World’s greatest sports league back to Richmond this summer,” commented Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Director of Soccer. “The record attendance and electric atmosphere was unprecedented and we look forward to making this high profile exhibition an even bigger spectacle the second time around”.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to host West Bromwich Albion, who under the guidance of Tony Pulis, have risen to 13th position in the Premier League.” added Cowlishaw. “They have some massive games against Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal to end their season so it will be interesting to see how they fare. We anticipate a sell-out night on July 19 and we invite the Richmond community to join us in celebrating the Premier League with their hometown team.”
Established in 1878, the West Midlands-based club are currently ranked 13th in the Barclays Premier League standings with a 9-15-10 record and 37 points, under the guidance of former Premier League Manager of the Year, Tony Pulis who took the helm midseason. Previously, Pulis managed Crystal Palace when the Richmond Kickers hosted the EPL side in front of a sell-out crowd of nearly 8,000 at City Stadium last season.
