Over 300 Touches in 20 Minutes
This routine will provide about 300 touches on the ball in 20 minutes and can be done each day.  I selected these drills because they can be done inside or outside. If inside, all you need is about a 5’ x 5’ area.

The Games Within the Game
Isolating smaller situations help make 11 v. 11 more manageable by Lawrence Fine
Too often, when looking at the game of soccer, people think of terms of 11 v 11 when playing or coaching.  However, the key is to find ways to isolate the game into various 1 v 1, 2 v 1, 2 v 2, and 3 v 2 situations.   When coaches and players start looking for these smaller situations and find ways to capitalize upon them, they find the game of 11 v 11 much easier.  To learn more click here!

Parental Support - The Key to Peak Performance
All Parents.. please read as you are a KEY to your childs SUCCESS!
The role that parents play in the life of a soccer player has a tremendous impact on their experience. Dealing with Muscle Cramps
Potential Causes and Prevention Methods For Dealing with Cramping Muscles by Pierre Barrieu, Men's National Team Strength and Conditioning Coach
Muscle cramping is not an uncommon problem among athletes. Although it is not entirely clear what causes muscle cramps, they are often instigated by loss of fluids and minerals during a hard workout or game. Sometimes muscle cramps can be serious enough to take a player out of a competition.

Too Much, Too Soon!
By Gordon Miller. VYSA Technical Director
In a growing number of locations, within the VYSA and around the country, there are organizations and leagues that begin travel soccer at U9 and in some cases as young as U8. The process of identifying players at this young an age and then directing them into travel soccer is doing a disservice to the children and hindering the long- term development of our soccer players.

How can I teach my players to take more shots on goal?
Players who hesitate to shoot on goal even when it appears that they have a clear shot are obviously holding onto the ball too long.  There are many drills that can help forwards and midfielders to take more shots on goal even if it doesn't look like they have a clear shot.

U6 - U19 Training Priorities
The Technical Department of the VYSA is pleased to announce comprehensive Training Priorities for all our players from U6 to U19. Coaches from Recreation to Travel can click on the attachment to find out what priorities should be taught at specific ages in the child's soccer development.

YOUTH SOCCER CLUBS HAVE MASSIVE RESPONSIBILITIES TO PLAYERS
By Gordon Miller - VYSA Technical Director of Coaching
Training alone or playing pickup games is something that governing bodies, leagues and associations have no influence over.  It is well known in sporting circles that for players to develop a passion and true love for the game, playing outside of their structured team sessions is a pre-requisite.  It only stands to reason then that the third part of the equation, the club, must provide the player with other ingredients (tactical understanding, quality coaching, physical preparation, psychological development, etc.) necessary to further accelerate the players’ development.

How can I help my child learn?
Juggling
The art of juggling can be a tricky one to learn. This is one of those skills that you will probably not be using in a game, to the extent that you will be juggling the ball down the field, but learning to juggle properly and well can improve your coordination, one-touch ability, and trapping ability.

Developing a Winning Mental Approach
Assignment #1 - Confidence and Self Talk (hands on exercise for all players U11 and above)
Assignment #1 - Confidence and Self Talk (Changing negative self talk to positive self talk)

The journey to becoming a more complete player begins by building confidence and then learning to maintain it after setbacks. "Confidence is contagious.  So is lack of confidence."  Coach Vince Lombardi, 1996.
