Practice

Practices vary by age group.  At the U4, U5 and U6 level, practices are 1/2 hour before their Sunday game.  Practices for the U8, U10, U12 and U15 age groups may be held at the Seminary fields at Brook & Westwood.

Recreational teams are guaranteed 1 night of practice field location a week. Most coaches set up practice times after work hours (i.e. starting anywhere from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. and ending 1 to 1.5 hours after the start time.) The length of practice will depend on the coach. 1 hour to 1.5 hours is normal for U8 and older.

The league supports varying practice locations to reduce field usage for matches.

Training

We offer special skills training by top trainers/professional players FREE to our members. Two (2) goal keeping sessions will be offered, as well as three (3) skills sessions will be offered. Training dates will be announced later. In the Fall of 2006 these sessions were conducted by Eric Dutt and Kofi Nti, Professional Players, and Kyle Lessig, Youth National Coach.   Team training sessions are also available upon request.  Please contact Tish Schrock, Recreation Technical Director to schedule a team training session.

Equipment

All players are encouraged to bring a ball and labeled water bottle to practice. U4, U5, U6, & U8 use a Size 3 ball. U10’s  & U12’s use a size 4 ball. All ages older use a size 5 ball. Shin guards are mandatory at practice and socks are to cover the shin guard completely. It is not necessary for the players to wear soccer cleats. They can play and practice in regular tennis shoes, (although preferably not white ones as they get dirty very quickly!)  Earrings and jewelry are NOT PERMITTED.

Games

All matches are scheduled on Sundays. Due to our new affiliation with the Richmond Kickers, there may be an opportunity for U10 and older teams to have some matches scheduled on Saturdays against the Chesterfield County Division of the Richmond Kickers (Still to be determined)  There may be a few situations where a make up match due to rain may be rescheduled during the week (this is not often not likely to be made up).

The games for U4, U5, U6, U8 and U10 co-ed leagues will be played on the Seminary fields at Brook and Westwood.  The games for U12, U15 and U10 girls will be played on Richmond City fields, primarily Bryan Park.
