Exciting New Player Development Opportunity For Top Amateur Players

Richmond, VA – (Monday, February 2, 2009) – The Richmond Kickers have created an exciting new player development program that will provide four to six amateur players the opportunity to train with the Kickers professional team throughout the summer months. Any player wishing to be considered for this unique position should send a detailed resume and references to Head Coach, Leigh Cowlishaw.  Players will be selected by May 1, 2009.

“The Kickers are focused on player development for our entire community,” explains Cowlishaw.  “This Internship program will provide an environment for top amateur players in the region to train and learn from experienced and talented professionals.  Andrew Wells, our U-18 Academy Goalkeeper, has spent the last two summer seasons training with the pros and has benefited greatly from the experience.  We know this will be an excellent opportunity for elite amateur players wishing to continue their development through the off-season.”

The Richmond Kickers Future of the Premier Development League (PDL) recently decided to take a hiatus for the 2009 season.  In eight seasons in the PDL, the Richmond Kickers Future compiled an overall record of 57-38-14 and helped pave the path to the pro ranks for several amateur players including current Kickers pros Matthew Delicâte and Ross MacKenzie
