ONE VERSUS ELEVEN
Spotlight on... Adrian Bumbut

One vs. Eleven – Adrian Bumbut

Adrian Bumbut has been one of the standout players for the Kickers this season. Born August 17, 1984, Bumbut left his home in Zalau, Romania, at age 14 in order to play for the Stefan Kovack Soccer Academy. His progression led him to the U17 Romanian national team. After a short but life-changing stint with the Olympique Lyon junior academy, Bumbut moved to the United States and was recruited to play soccer at Liberty University. Bumbut was drafted by the Chicago Fire after college, but joined the Kickers shortly thereafter amidst a host of other offers, citing the coaching staff and the area as a major influence on his decision.

1. Who is your greatest role model? Why?
My dad. He works very hard, never complains and he was a great soccer player in Romania.

2. What do you like to do when you’re not playing soccer?
I’m a very outdoorsy guy. When I don’t play soccer and I’m home in Florida, I’m at the beach all day. I also like to play tennis, and I love going to the movies.

3. What brought you to the Kickers?
I like the organization and was very familiar with the area.

4. What kind of cleats do you currently wear? Why?
I like to wear light boots such as Nike Vapors.

5. How would you spend your ideal day?
My ideal day would be spent in Romania with all my friends and family that I miss very much.

6. What was the best game you’ve been involved in? Why?
I guess it would have to be when I played in college with Liberty. We won a game in overtime 2-1 against High-Point University.

7. What is your favorite Kickers memory?
When I scored my first professional goal against Real Maryland last year.

8. What do you think is the strongest part of your game?
My pace I think.

9. Which national team do you support? Who do you think will win World Cup 2010?
I will support the Romanian national team ‘til I die, but I think that Spain has a good chance of winning the 2010 World Cup.

10. What music do you listen to in order to get pumped up for a game?
Romanian dance music is the best ever, especially DJ Project.

11. What advice would you give to young players trying to play professionally?
Obviously nowadays talent isn’t enough. Hard work and discipline would be my top suggestions.
